More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Donald E. "Ed" Andersen, age 78 died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Hospice of Charleston, Mount Pleasant, following an illness.

Mr. Andersen was born in Conway, a son of the late Oscar Donald and Lorraine Evans Andersen. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and also received a Masters degree from University of South Carolina. Mr. Andersen served in the Marine Corp for 23 years, serving as a Marine Aviator for two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he served as the Director of Mentor and also served as Executive Director of Shoreline Behavioral Services of Horry County until his retirement. Mr. Andersen was also a state constable. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charleston, SC.

Surviving are: his wife of 56 years, Jacquelyn F. Andersen of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, Donald E. Andersen, Jr and wife Pamela of Edisto Island, SC, John E. Andersen and wife Hope of Sanford, NC, and Michael F. Andersen and wife Kim of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 8 grandchildren, Jackie Andersen, Christopher Andersen, Andrew Andersen, Mary Andersen, John Eric Andersen and wife Kat, Jeremy Andersen and wife Cason, Jaden Andersen, and Dani Andersen; and 3 great grandchildren, Brody, Kylie, and Justin.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 11, 2014 from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. David Butler officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Saturday.

The family will also receive friends in the Parish Hall of St. John's Lutheran Church, Charleston, SC from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2014.
