More detail on this person: Jerry Lendo Brantley, 75, passed away, Monday, January 19, 2015, after a brave battle with colon cancer. He was born in Wilson County on January 31, 1939, to the late Samuel Lendo and Evelyn Barnes Brantley. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a sister, Constance Connie Lucile Brantley Smith Lloyd. Jerry is survived by his wife, Margie Parker Brantley; a son, Jerry Lendo Len Brantley, Jr. and wife, Linda Trunk Brantley; three grandchildren, Caleb McCray Brantley, Griffin Scott Brantley and McKenna Gail Brantley and a nephew, Stevie Smith. Jerry received a B.S. Degree in Aviation from Excelsior University of the State of New York. He received a B.S. Degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle University, and he attended Campbell University. Jerry was a retired Army Pilot, as well as a North Carolina State Employee. In the Army, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a combat helicopter pilot. He also served in the National Guard. His ranks included four levels of Warrant Officer, First Lieutenant, and Captain. At the state level, he flew for four governors, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Commerce. Jerry received numerous military honors and awards. He was also awarded the Vietnam Conflict Cross of Military Service by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Jerry had a lifetime interest in flying. He subscribed to many flying magazines, and he was a member of the Army Aviation Association of America. Jerry loved animals, and he was sympathetic and generous to those in need. A visitation will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January, 23, 2015, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass following at 12:00 pm. The committal will be held at 3:30 pm at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
