More detail on this person: Lt. Colonel (ret.) Frame John Bowers III, loving husband, father, friend, coach and inspiration to all passed away peacefully in his sleep due to complications from ALS on Tuesday, Feb. 1. A warrior to the end, he fought the disease with courage and grace. Survived by his wife Judy Wiggins Bowers of Cincinnati; children Jennifer Bowers Pang of Honolulu and Maj. David Bowers of Tampa; grandsons DJ, John "Kailoa", and Kawika of Honolulu. John served in the U.S. Army for 28 years, and was a Vietnam Veteran who earned the Bronze Star. He retired from General Electric after 28 years as an Aeronautical Engineer and Six Sigma instructor. He graduated in 1969 from West Point, earned a masters in aeronautical engineering from Princeton in 1976 and a MBA from Xavier in 1983. John earned the Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America and received the Queen Scout from Canada. He was presented the "Spirit of the Eagle" Award in 2009, BSA's Lifetime Achievement Award. Actively involved in both the Vestry of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and G.E.'s Elfun Society, he was also an Aiken High School mentor. Memorial service is Friday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Terrace Park.
