Major (RET) Ronald Anthony Brooks Sr., loving husband of Barbara Cooper Brooks, passed peacefully on January 11, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital Eastside in his 79th year. He was born in Wheeling, WV to the late Luther Clyde Brooks and Dorothy Marie Adams. Dr. Brooks is a 1963 graduate of Bob Jones University and received his Master's in Education from Troy State University in 1970. In 1994 He received his honorary doctorate from Maranatha Baptist University. Ron was chosen as the alumnus of the year by Bob Jones University in 2002. Major Brooks was a highly-decorated veteran of the U. S. Army with 26 years of distinguished service, including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. After Ron's military career he taught on the faculty at Bob Jones University. He served on the pastoral staff at Southside Baptist Church, before moving to Heidelberg, Germany, where he planted Calvary Baptist Church. Ron continued on with Baptist World Mission as Field Director for many years. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife are, sons, Ronald A. Brooks, Jr. (Lynn) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Jeffrey C. Brooks (Robyn) of Chesapeake, VA, and Stephen M. Brooks (Sujin) of Korea; daughter, Leslie B. Ribeiro of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Cory, Ronnie, Aaron, Shane, Joy, Jesse, Jackie, Gehrig, and Reilly; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Donald Brooks (Kim); and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 11 am, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Simpsonville, Dr. Fred Moritz officiating, with burial following in Graceland East Memorial Park. Visitation from 5 to 7:00 pm Friday, January 15, 2016 at The Mackey Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials to Baptist World Mission.
