More detail on this person: Robert Hawn Barrett was born February 25, 1951 to Kenneth J. and Rita Maxine (Hawn) Barrett in Omaha, Neb. He graduated from the Dunlap High School in 1969. He attended the University of Iowa for one semester and then enlisted in the United States Army. Bob served in Vietnam in 1971 and 1972 as Chief Warrant Officer. He moved to Las Vegas and worked in a casino until 1989, he then returned to Omaha.

In December of 1998 he became a resident of the Thomas Fitzgerald Veteran's Home in Omaha, Neb. While at the home he served as Mailman, President of the Member Council, Activity Director, Advocate for the residents and on a committee to design a new Veterans Home in Bellevue. One resident stated "Bob was an asset to the home and would do anything that was asked of him." Bob died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, in Omaha, Neb., attaining the age of 54 years, four months, and 18 days. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a sister, Barb and her husband Tom Smith of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Mark Barrett and his wife Jody of Ankeny, Iowa, Michael Barrett of Omaha, Neb.; six nieces, two nephews and four great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Paul Strittmatter officiating. Musician was Marilyn Grote and vocalist was Andrea Reisz who sang "On Eagles Wings." Recorded selections were "If I Stand," and "The Long and Winding Road." Final resting place is Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Pallbearers were Elizabeth Maxine Smith, Audrey Maxine Barrett, Tom Smith, Rosemary Smith, Alison Barrett, Jennifer Smith, Jill Spomer, Ryan Spomer. Military services were provided by Dunlap American Legion Post #224. Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
