Anchorage resident Kirt Butler, 43, died April 15 at Veterans Hospital in Seattle.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Cross, 12230 Hillside Drive. A reception will follow the service at the Sourdough Mining Co.

Born Oct. 7, 1948, in St. Cloud, Minn. He arrived in Alaska in 1950.

Mr. Butler spent his youth in Fairbanks and Juneau, where he was involved in Little League and downhill skiing.

He served as a warrant officer with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He received the Service Medal Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mr. Butler spent the last 12 years in Anchorage, where he was employed as a helicopter pilot.

He was an avid fisherman and sportsman, and a member of Pioneers of Alaska.

Mr. Butler is survived by his daughter, Bria of Anchorage; his father, Roger of Paxson; his sister and brother-in-law, Shannon and Bob Law of Anchorage; and his sister, Lynn Steinhoff of Kansas.
