More detail on this person: Dennis A. Calfous, 81, of West Hartford, CT, born July 12, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, sadly passed away on October 1, 2012. He was the son of the late Dennis A. Calfous, Sr. and the late Zoe Calamaras Calfous; brother of Yvonne Calfous Tsaras; husband of the late Elizabeth McConkey Calfous and subsequently Maria A. Calfous. He grew up attending schools in Brooklyn and Philadelphia and graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1950. He was also schooled in and served in the army from 1951-1966 as a maintenance officer and helicopter pilot and remained an active pilot in the army reserves until 1979. He worked for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT for 31 years from August 1966 until his retirement in 1997. There he had an integral role as a manager for the Blackhawk Helicopter program which also included service with its international division. Following retirement, he returned to Sikorsky for a number of years as a consultant. Prior to moving to West Hartford in 2010, he was a long-time resident of Wethersfield and Branford, CT. He was a lifetime member of the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) and held additional memberships in the Archaeological Institute of America (IA), the Lakehust Historical Aviation Association and Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). He was also a long-time active parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford, CT. In addition to his loving wife Maria, he leaves behind two daughters, Christine Calfous of Cedar Grove, NJ and Valerie Calfous of Branford, CT; step-children, Nick Karas and his wife Anne of Glastonbury, CT, Cynthia Karas O'Connor and her husband Dan of Madison, CT, Zachary Karas and his wife Joan of West Hartford, CT; and six step-grandchildren, John and Peter Karas, Zachary and Matthew O'Connor and Elizabeth and Jacob Karas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, CT 06114. The viewing will take place from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 4th, at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, a Trisayion Service will be Thursday, 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 5th at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, with The Rev. George Zugravu officiating.
