More detail on this person: Robert Wendall Collins Salisbury NC United States Robert Wendall Collins SALISBURY -- Mr. Collins, died Friday November 23, 2007 at W.G. Hefner V.A. Medical Center, Salisbury. Born September 7, 1946 in San Joaquin County California he was the son of the late Clinton Edward and Thelma Gale Collins. Mr Collins retired in 2000 as Director of Facilities and Planning of Davidson College. He had served as North Mecklenburg Utility Department; Advisory Committee, the Transit Oversight Committee, Charlotte Transit Planning Advisory Committee, Member of the North Mecklenburg Club, Served as treasurer the Auxiliary of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He had received numerous awards and Certificates of appreciation while serving as Director of Physical Plant at The Citadel for twelve years. He was a graduate of Madera California High School and Fresno College. He enlisted in the army in 1956. He attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Flight School at Fort Wolters and served in Vietnam with the 174 Attack Helicopters Company and received The Air Metal, Purple Heart The Air Metal with V and Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Metal and the Vietnam Campaign and service Metal. From 1968 to 1971 he attended Numerous Army School While in service with the Air Cavalry Troop and other units. He served a second tour of duty in Vietnam in 1971 and received the Bronze Star Metal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and Palm. He retired with Rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Survivors include his wife Susan Collins; a son Robert Collins and wife Sharon of Darrow, LA; a step son Kevin Warrick and Wife Rebecca of Mocksville; a step daughter Amanda Redfern and husband Jefferson of Florence, SC; two brothers Clinton Collins of Madera, CA; Gary Collins of Fresno CA; five grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Davidson College Presbyterian Church from 2:30- 3 PM Monday. Funeral Services will be held 3 PM Monday November 26, 2007 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church with Dr John Kuykendall officiating. There will be a private burial. Memorial Donations May be made to Davidson College 100 North Main St. Davidson, NC 28036
