He was a retired lieutenant colonel of the Army and the Civil Service, a member of the Belle Point Lodge No. 20, F&AM of Fort Smith, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Chapter No. 14 Order of the Eastern Star of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.?Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Cemetery with Masonic rites and military honors under the direction of Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. ?He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a daughter, Patricia Shores of Alma; a son, Russell Cable of Springdale; a stepson, Meddy Settles of Jesup, Ga.; a sister, Polly Cody of Robbinsville, N.C.; four brothers, Douglas Cable of Robbinsville, N.C., Tommy Cable of Acworth, Ga., Jackie Cable of Gastonia, N.C., and Jerry Cable of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.?Honorary pallbearers will be members of Jesup Masonic Lodge No. 112 F&AM.?Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.?Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne County Cancer Society, P.O. Box 464, Jesup, GA 31498-0464.
