More detail on this person: RUEL H. CORLEY JR. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Ruel Hugh Corley Jr., 76, of the 4700 block of Woodpecker Road, died Dec. 18, 1999, in his residence. Born in Gilmer, Texas, he was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, Va. He was a lieutenant colonel with an exemplary career. He participated in two armed conflicts, Korea and Vietnam, and received multiple decorations, including the Bronze Star with combat ''V.'' An outstanding helicopter pilot, he was a member of HMX-1, the squadron assigned to the president of the United States from 1958 to 1961. After 28 years of faithful service to his country, he retired in 1970 and proceeded to have a second career of 13 years with Sovran Bank as a methods and systems analyst. He retired from this position in 1985. He was a member of the Marine Corps Aviation Association and TROA. He received his bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ernestine Huff Corley; a daughter, the Rev. Cynthia A. Corley of Front Royal, Va.; a son, Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. James H. Corley of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Grace Allen of Longview, Texas, and Sarah Castloo of Dallas; a brother, John P. Corley of Gilmer, Texas; and two granddaughters, Jessica D.K. Corley and Jennie E. Corley. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Frances Asbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Eugene R. Woolridge and the Rev. Robert Moore. Entombment will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, Harrowgate Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, or the American Cancer Society.
