More detail on this person: COBB -- LTC Joseph F. COBB -- LTC Joseph F., age 73, a native of San Diego who served in the US Army Air Corp as a P-38 Fighter Pilot during World War II, died on March 10, 1997 at Alvarado Hospital after a long illness. LTC Cobb attended San Diego State College following WWII and became a Regular Army Officer in 1949. He flew cargo helicopters and light aircraft assisting in the formulation of the Army's Air Mobility Concepts during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He rose to the rank of LT. Colonel with 26 ye ars of active duty. His decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal and Commendation Medal. After retirement he joined the SD Police, served 13 years as a civilian staff member in SE San Diego. Mr. Cobb pledged Delta Pi Be ta Fraternity at SDSU and obtained his BA degree in Commerce in 1948. In addition he belonged to the Blackmer Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Masonry and Al Bahr Shrine. He became a charter member of the Exchange Club of Mission Valley in 1970 and served as a treasurer and president of this Community Service group. He was active in the Exchange work for 27 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Patricia Geelan, his high school sweetheart, daughters Patricia J. Wheeler, Janice L. Carter and Catherine A. Cobb, sons David W. and James H. Cobb, grandchildren Anna and Devin Wheeler, Mary Melissa and Rory Carter. Services and Inurmment Monday 1 p.m. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery . In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of your choice is su ggested.
