More detail on this person: FORT RUCKER (AP) The second victim of a helicopter crash near Elba was identified Saturday as Warrant Officer Candidate James W. Connor, 23, the son of a brigadier general. Army officials said Connor is the son of Brig. Gen. and Mrs. William M. Connor. They could not provide the dead soldier's hometown, but said funeral services will be held at Ft. Sill. Connor and WO Louis A. Brooks Jr., 27, of Newcastle, Del. were killed Friday when their HU-1 helicopter exploded while on a routine training flight 5 from Ft. Rucker. Army investigators are still attempting to determine the cause. The helicopter crashed in flames about six miles west of Elba off Alabama 189. Rucker-based helicopter to explode in flight near here Friday, killing its two crewmen. Killed were warrant officer candidates Louis A. Brooks Jr., husband of Jean Lynch Brooks, Newcastle, Del., and James W. Connor, 23, son of Brig. Gen. and Mrs. William M Connor. Ft. Rucker officials said they did not have an address for the Connors, but the funeral service for the young aviator will be held at Ft. Sill, Okla. Both men would have graduated July 19. The UH-1, a standard Army helicopter used in Viet Nam, blew apart and crashed in flames about six miles east of Elba, just off of Alabama 189.
