More detail on this person: Walter Hugh DeWitt Walter Hugh DeWitt Jr. passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Walt was born to Walter Hugh DeWitt Sr. and Lorona DeWitt on Jan. 5, 1945, in Sumter, SC. He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and served in Vietnam from April 1968 to April 1969. After leaving active duty he continued to serve his country in the Florida National Guard until 1982, where he achieved the rank of major. He was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He volunteered with the Destin Little League during the years his sons played baseball. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron. Walt is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Brian (Samantha) and Russell (Tami); grandchildren, Ansley and Rylan; sister-in-law, Sue; and nephew John (Niki). For those who have asked, the family has requested that no flowers be sent, since both companies Walt worked for are sending large arrangements.
