More detail on this person: Robert James "Bob" Davis Robert James "Bob" Davis, 71, Zearing, Iowa, formerly of Luverne, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames, Iowa. A memorial service was Monday, Dec. 19, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa. Robert Davis was born Jan. 17, 1940, to Louis and Eva (Martin) Davis in Luverne. He attended school in Beaver Creek, graduating in 1958. Following high school he entered the U.S. Army where he served honorably for more than 20 years. He began his army service in Korea, where he was recommended for warrant officer candidate school and helicopter pilot training and ultimately attained the rank of captain. As an army aviator, he flew more than 13,000 hours in a variety of aircraft. He served in Vietnam and earned the Bronze Star. After his Vietnam tour he served in Korea again. He was stationed at several Army posts throughout the U.S. and served as an instructor pilot. Subsequent to his Army career he flew for Bell Helicopter Corp as an instructor pilot in Iran and upon returning to the U.S. was employed as a test pilot for Beechcraft Corp in Salina, Kan. He also flew corporate jets in Ohio for a number of years. He was employed by Innovative Ag Services in Hubbard, Iowa, in recent years. He was a member Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. He was also a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association. He enjoyed playing his trumpet, listening to jazz and blues music, studying and critiquing politics and caring for his dogs. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Cathy Davis, Zearing, Iowa; two children, Krista Schiffer and Casey Davis, both of Ohio; two stepsons, Justin (Regina) Weig and Nathon (Tami) Weig; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three siblings, Bette (Cleve) Tucker, Minneapolis, Bryce Davis, La Crosse, Wis., and David Davis, Ocala, Fla.; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Richard Davis.
