More detail on this person: CHARLES EUGENE DORFFELD RALEIGH - Charles Eugene Dorffeld, 68, of 3422 Oates Drive, died suddenly at his home on September 19, 1998. Mr. Dorffeld was a retired Lt. Col. with the United States Marine Corps, where he flew helicopters, transports and jets. Mr. Dorffeld served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts. After retirement he worked with Walter Kidde Inc., in Wake Forest. Memorial prayer service: 7 p.m. Monday, September 21, 1998 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel. Inurnment, 12 noon, Tuesday, September 22, 1998 at Sandhills National Cemetery, Spring Lake, with full military honors. Surviving: wife of 44 years, Sue Standley Dorffeld; sons, Joseph Charles Dorffeld and his wife, Jeri of Holden, Massachusetts, Robert Edward Dorffeld and his wife, Joyce of Knightdale, John Andrew Dorffeld of Raleigh; daughters, Ann M. Predaris and her husband, Steven of New Bern, Ruth E. Stout and her husband, Donald Gray Stout Jr. of Burlington, Lt. Mary Lewellyn and her husband, Cmdr. David Lewellyn of Norfolk, Virginia; grandchildren, Rhonda Norman, April Norman, Brendon Stout, Elizabeth Stout, Dylan Lewellyn, Amanda Lewellyn, Ashley Dorffeld; brother, James Dorffeld of Wichita, Kansas; sisterin-law, Sookie Dorffeld of Buffalo, New York. Mr. Dorffeld was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Charles Dorffeld and Nina Fuller Dorffeld, and a brother, William R. Dorffeld. Family will receive relatives and friends following the memorial service from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 1998 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545 and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2906 Anderson Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27609.
