More detail on this person: Jack Edwards Jack Lee Edwards, 65, of Martinsville, died at 9:20 a.m. on May 8, 2002, at the Richard Roudebush VA Hospital in Indianapolis. The son of James E. and Opal (Hall) Edwards, he was born on Oct. 29, 1936, in Elgin, Tenn. He was married to Margaret Smiddle on Feb. 5, 1955. She survives. Edward was a 1956 graduate of Tombstone High School and a 1981 graduate of University of Southern California with a master's degree in Systems Management. He also graduated from Armed Forces Staff College in 1978, Infantry Officers Advanced Course in 1971, Rotary Wing Aviator in 1966 and Airborne School and Ranger Course, both in 1964. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the United States Army after 34 years. He served in both Korea and Vietnam. Following his retirement, he worked for H & R. Block in Martinsville for seven years. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars, three Meritorious Service Medals and Senior Aviator, Ranger, Expert Infantryman and Parachute badges. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Bloomington and the Retired Officers Association. He attended Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville. Survivors include a son, Steven L. Edwards of Lawton, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Christian, Virginia Beach, Va., and Kathy Dalgleish, Rocky River, Ohio; two brothers, Ken Edwards from Martinsville and Jim Edwards from West Lafayette, Ind., and one sister, Pat Ford of Indianapolis, and six grandchildren. Two brothers, Paul and Roger Edwards, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville. The Rev. Chris Page will officiate. There will be no calling. The body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Costin Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
