More detail on this person: Robert Archie Gleason ABBEVILLE. . .Robert Archie (Bob) Gleason, a resident of Abbeville, died early Sunday morning, February 6, 2011, at his home. He was 73. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P. M. Thursday, February 10, 2011, in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, West Broad Street, Eufaula, with Father David Shoemaker officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan, with Reverend Dan Corley and Father David Shoemaker officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 6:45 P. M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville. A Rosary service will close out the visitation at 6:45 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 515 West Broad Street, Eufaula, AL. 36027 or to Alacare Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36305. Mr. Gleason was born and reared in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Conard Archie Gleason and Nellie Leona Johnson Gleason. He lived in various locations in the U.S. and overseas while serving in the U.S. Army and also lived in Enterprise before moving to Abbeville in 1998. Mr. Gleason retired in 1977 from the U. S. Army with rank of Major having served twenty-three years and two tours in Vietnam. While serving in the military, he was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal 30th Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal 1st OLC, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal and the Senior Army Aviator Badge. He received a B. S. Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After retirement from the Army, Mr. Gleason owned and operated V.I.P. Services in Enterprise. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eufaula. Mr. Gleason was a 4th Degree Knight with Council No. 1432 and a 3rd Degree Knight with Council No. 4380 of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post No. 0119. Mr. Gleason was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Molly Mahoney Gleason and his second wife, Loretta Shehane Braswell Gleason, and a step-daughter, Sebrina Braswell Williamson. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mary Gleason Irwin and husband, Robert, Omaha, NE; Jane Gleason Caudle and husband, Kip, Athens, AL.; a son, Michael Robert Gleason and wife, Rita, Rockledge, FL; a sister, Donna Abbott and husband, Robert, Columbus, OH; a brother, Delbert (Jackie) Gleason and wife, Carolyn, Hilliard, OH; six grandchildren, Thomas Gleason, David Gleason, Aaron Henderson, Kathleen Henderson Miranda and husband, Chris, Olivia Irwin and Molly Irwin; step-grandchildren, Donald Mack Caudle, Rachel Caudle, Kelli Williamson Yates and husband, Michael, and Justin Williamson; a great-grandchild, Chase Henderson; two step-great-grandchildren, Payton Williamson and Hunter Yates. Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Robert Gleason, Robert Irwin, Aaron Henderson, Thomas Gleason, David Gleason and Jeffrey Hastilow. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Olivia Irwin, Molly Irwin, Kathleen Miranda, Chris Miranda, Kip Caudle, Kenneth Williamson, Kelli Yates, Michael Yates and Phila Logan.
