More detail on this person: Bruce L. Gillaspie, Sr. LAFAYETTE - Memorial Services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Bruce L. Gillaspie, Sr., 68, who passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Deacon Jeff Trump will conduct the memorial service.Bruce was born Tuesday, December 28, 1943 in Battle Creek, MI and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. A proud veteran, Bruce served during Vietnam as a Captain and helicopter pilot in the U. S. Marines. After Vietnam, he worked for years in the oil and gas industry as a respected pilot for PHI up until his retirement in 1997. Bruce was a member of the Acadiana Woodtuners and was passionate about the American right to bear arms. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted, loving husband, provider, father, grandfather, brother, comrade and friend and will be deeply missed Bruce is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Margaret Ann Ford Gillaspie of Lafayette; his daughter, Michele Young and her husband, Paul, also of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Krystena Webb and Grace, Grant and Riley Young; two great-grandchildren; and his two brothers, Bradley Gillaspie and his wife, Barbara of Gays Mills, Wisconsin and Bernie Gillaspie, of Raleigh, NC. He was preceded in death by his only son, Bruce L. Gillaspie, Jr.; his parents Orl Alton Gillaspie and the former Beatrice Ruth Ball; and his only sister, Betty Gillaspie.Visiting hours will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be in Bruce's name to Paralyzed Veterans of America at PVA, National Headquarters, 801 Eighteenth St., N.W., Washington, D.C., 20006-3517.
