Carpenter, 47, died Saturday, April 16, 1994, at F.G. Riley Memorial Hospital, Meridian. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home, Meridian, with Lt. Col. Ret. Jim Patrick and the Rev. Ennis Hyman officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Hamrick Cemetery, near Collinsville. Mr. Carpenter was general manager for Coats and Coats Employment Service. He was a veteran of Vietnam and had retired from the Army in 1988 as a lieutenant colonel after 22 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Newgent Carpenter; two sons, Matthew Scott Carpenter, Charleston, S.C., and Steven Carpenter, Collinsville; his mother, Margie B. Carpenter, Collinsville; and three sisters, Ellen Walker, Glenda Reid and Dianne Agnew, all of Collinsville. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 911 Meridian, Miss. 39302; or Muscular Dystrophy Association, 365 W. Northside Drive, Suite 200, Jackson, Miss. 39206.
