Thomas "Tom" Robert Herrington, 55, Sarasota, died Jan. 18, 2002. He was born Jan. 5, 1947, in Charlotte, N.C., and came to the area 20 years ago from Birmingham, Ala. He was an air traffic controller for the FAA for 20 years and a pilot with Air Scan. He was a warrant officer in the Army during the Vietnam War and received the Air Medal, Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry, Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association and was a U.S. swimming official. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Pamela; sons Thomas J., Robert and Michael, all of Sarasota; a brother, James W. Jr. of Perry; and his mother, Anna W. of Perry. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Perry. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Sarasota County Chapter No. 3, 2445 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34237.
