More detail on this person: I am sad to inform
you of the passing of my good friend and VHPA
member Fred Harris. He passed 1 Jan 2017 after
complications from a fall and head injury. I do
not know his membership number, but do know how
proud he was of being a member. I personally
served multiple tours as CE/DG/FLT OPS in 175th
AHC and 134th AHC. This information was last updated 01/06/2017

Fred's wife recently had a stroke, and is
currently undergoing re-hab (speech related). Fred
was from Auburn, WA.
Mike Kenna
Frederick Woodrow Harris of Auburn, WA, passed
away at Saint Francis Hospital in Federal Way on
Sunday January 1st at the age of 74 due to medical
complications. Fred Harris is survived by his wife
Carola Harris and four of his remaining children:
Andrew, Lorraine, Amanda, Dimitry, and a father to
his late son Eugene. He also leaves behind seven
grandchildren.
Fred was born in Greenville, Maine on May 23,
1942; he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson
Harris and Alice Theresa Harris and elder brother
to David Harris. He went to school and graduated
in Hoopa, CA. Fred started his military career in
1960 in the Air Force where he was stationed in
England. In 1962 he met his wife Carola; they
married in August 1963 and were married for 53
years.
In 1964 Fred continued his military service in the
Army where he proudly served his country till
1981. During his military career, Fred was awarded
the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star,
Purple Heart, and the Air Medal, and was a
Vietnam War Veteran. Following his career in the
military, Fred worked for Korean Airlines till he
took a job for Alaska Airlines in 1982. During
that time he also worked as a helicopter mechanic
instructor at the University of Alaska. In 1984 he
moved with his family to Washington State where
he worked for Alaska Airlines till his retirement.
After retiring Fred loved and enjoyed playing golf
with his friends, fishing, and traveling. Fred
Harris was a Loving husband, wonderful father,
grandfather, and great friend to all that knew
him.
The Memorial Service will be held January 14th at
1:00pm at Yahn and Son Funeral Home, 55 West
Valley Highway South, Auburn, WA. There will be a
reception directly following the service.
