More detail on this person: ROBERT E. HAMMOND ASHEVILLE - Robert E. Hammond, 63, of 9 Tamarac Trail, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 , in Georgia. He was the son of the late Claude and Pearl Owen Hammond. Mr. Hammond lived in Buncombe County for 19 years and moved here from Fayetteville. He was a member of Merrimon m Avenue Baptist Church, a Vietnam War veteran nnH rptirari frnm thp i I .? Army after serving as a helicopter pilot. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Hammond of the home; one son, Michael Hammond of Asheville; one daughter, Melinda Rhew of Asheville; one brother, George Hammond of Richmond Hill, Ga.; bne stepbrother, Billy Hammond; and two grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery chapel with the Rev. J.C. Parker officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Williams Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
