More detail on this person: Daniel (Danny)
Gene Hines, 67, of Haughton, Louisiana, bravely
went to be with his heavenly father on Sept. 26,
2014. Danny was born on Sept. 1, 1947 in
Magnolia, Arkansas to C. Rudolph and Vera
(Anderson) Hines. He was the oldest of four and
proud to call Deborah (Debbie), Susie, and Rudy
his siblings. Danny, a country boy at heart, loved
his family and time living in Arkansas. He began a
paper route when he was 12, driven by his strong
work ethic, and worked until retirement. When in
high school, Danny's family moved to Evansville,
Indiana where he attended Calvary Temple and
graduated from Harrison High School in 1965. He
attended Indiana State briefly before entering the
Army at wartime.
Danny was a highly decorated helicopter pilot
achieving the rank of Captain while serving two
tours in Vietnam with the 68th Assault Helicopter
Company, "The Top Tigers." He met the love of his
life, Cynthia Carole Masterson, at church in
Evansville, and they were married in Hawaii in
1970 between his two tours. Danny was stationed
at Ft. Bragg and then Ft. Sill where they were
blessed with a daughter, Amanda Leigh Hines, the
light of Danny's life. After leaving the army with
seven years active duty, Danny moved to Bossier
City to be near his family and continue his
education. While earning his BS in Business
Administration from LSU-S, he was camp
commander of the Bossier National Guard for four
years. After graduation, he went on to work in the
oil and gas industry with the Western Company,
Nowsco, Enron, EOTT, and Trinity Services. He
was a man of integrity and honorably weathered
life's ups and downs with immense humility and
grace. Danny and Cynthia honored the Lord and
blessed their family with their loving marriage of
over 44 years.
Danny is survived by his wife Cynthia, his
daughter Amanda (Raymond Lee, Jr.), his two
grandchildren Madison Leigh Hines and Daniel
Joseph Christian Lee, his sister Susie Tompkins
(Wayne), his brother Rudy (Velma), nieces, and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his father,
mother, and younger sister Debbie. Danny loved to
spend time with his family and friends, cook,
garden, hunt, fish, shoot, and walk his dog.
Naturally inquisitive, he was an avid reader and
lifelong learner. Danny worshiped at Bellaire
Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his
friends in the Craw-gator Dive Club.
Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial in
Haughton on Monday, Sept. 29, from 5:00-7:00
p.m. Glyn Pfohl, Danny's cherished brother-in-law,
will lead a funeral service on Tuesday, Sept. 30,
at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. Danny
will be buried with military honors next to his
mother, father, and sister at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery
near Emerson, Arkansas at 3:00 p.m.
