More detail on this person: Ambrose H. "Andy" Hill Jr. Ambrose H. "Andy" Hill Jr., age 80, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. He was born on October 1, 1931 in McMechen, WV, son of the late Ambrose H. and Grace (Gardner) Hill Sr. Andy attended the Utica High School and entered the Korean War at the age of 16. After the Korean War, he continued his tour of duty in the Vietnam War and retired from the United States Army with 22 years of service. Andy was the former owner and operator the Mount Vernon Radio Shack. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4027 in Mount Vernon, Post 92 of the American Legion in Utica, and the Military Officers Association of American, where he served as a Reserve Captain. Andy was also a member of the Ohio Lodge #199 of the F. & A.M., the Knox Chapter of the Ohio Eastern Star #236, the Scottish Rite in Dallas, TX, Baldwin Shrine Club and the Aladdin Shrine in Columbus. Andy was a Certified Master Gardner with the Ohio State University. Andy is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Emma (Phillips) Hill; children, Emma Jane (Brent) Vail of Fredericktown, Sheri Cochran of Mount Vernon, Cynthia (Randall) Harris of Fredericktown, and Brian Kelly Hill of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Dustin Cochran, Nathan Howerton, Kelly Cochran, Jeremy Howerton, and Hayley Garrett and great grandchildren, Zoe Cochran and Steven Garrett.; brothers, Ross Lee Hill of Glendale, WV and William Kelly Hill of Calumet City, IL; sisters, Kathryn Horvath of Florida, Alice Hill of Chicago, and Eva Jane Gonzales of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Hill. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012 with Pastor Terry McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Eastern Star and Masonic Memorial services will follow the evening visitation.
