More detail on this person: GEORGE JOHNSON HAMILTON JR. George Johnson Hamilton Jr. of Gresham, a retired military man, died of a heart attack Aug. 26 in a Palm Bay, Fla., hospital. A memorial service was conducted. Mr. Hamilton was 65. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Huntington on Long Island, N.Y. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1943 and earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1950. A career veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Hamilton served during World War II and in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his retirement about 1970, as a lieutenant colonel, he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Nebraska. He had lived in Gresham since 1985. Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Ommanney of Palm Bay, Fla., Elizabeth Skelly of Monrovia, Liberia, and Leslie Hamilton of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Esther Kemp of Chevy Chase, Md.; brother, Charles of Boylston, Mass.; and three grandchildren. His wife of 32 years, Karle Seller Hamilton, died in April. Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Oregon Division of the American Cancer Society.
