More detail on this person: John C Or Jack Hayes, 73 John C. Hayes Garden City Life (NY) - Thursday, October 27, 2011 John C. (Jack) Hayes, age 73, formerly of Garden City and Glen Cove, passed away on Oct. 13, 2011 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Jack began a career in the New York Army National Guard soon after he graduated from high school. Assigned to the Special Forces battalion as a Green Beret, he was the only New York State Army National Guardsman assigned both a helicopter pilot and airborne jump status simultaneously during this time. After retiring from the military Jack was one of the first employees to be hired to work for Federal Express in Binghamton, NY. Jack is survived by his loving wife Bronwen of 51 years who resides in Palm Beach, FL; his son Brian of Florida, his son Michael and wife Suzanne of Slate Hill, NY; his grandsons, Michael, Stephen and Brian. Also his wonderful sister Mary of Pleasant Point, NJ, and loving brother James and wife Jean of Glen Cove. Jack was predeceased by his loving brother Neal of Naples, FL, and his brother William of West Palm Beach, FL. A memorial service was conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Riviera Beach. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to fight Parkinson's disease. Last Thursday, 13 October, a good man passed away. He was a husband, a father, and a true friend. He was also a Green Beret, Airborne qualified, a chopper pilot, and he was my company commander in OCS. Captain John (Jack) Hayes was 73, just nine years older than me, and we shared the same birthdate, 9 February. I thought highly of Captain Hayes; so highly that I gave his last name to my son for his middle name. He was just another soldier, unknown to most people, but loved by those who did know him. America... you lost a son last Thursday, but you can be proud of the man he was. Hank Mudge October 16, 2011 | Binghamton, NY My condolences to Jack's family. I had the pleasure of flying with him during our time in the Pa. Army National Guard. Sincerely, Bob McNamara October 16, 2011 | Susquehanna, PA
