CW2 Hill went to Ft. Hood, Tx. after Vietnam and finished his Army tour of duty. He began flying for Petroleum Helicopter doing off-shore work in the Gulf. During a refueling operation on one of the offshore rigs a hose got wrapped around one of his skids as he was lifting off and spun him into the sea. Unfortunately, Ronnie died before he could be rescued.

Survivors: Parents, living in Apache, OK.

He was buried with full military honors in Apache, OK.

Tatham Ronald Wayne Hill The Carnegie Herald, Wed., July 5, 1972 Ronnie Hill, a commercial helicopter pilot, was killed Wednesday in the ill-fated search for an off shore worker who fell from a barge anchored 80 miles off the coast south of Cameron, La. Ronnie Hill was born April 24, 1947 at Hobart. Following graduation from Apache high school in 1965, he attended the University of Oklahoma, Norman, two years. While serving in the United States Army, Hill was stationed in Vietnam with the Aviation Battalion of the First Air Cavalry and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and 26 air medals, including one from the government of South Vietnam. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Authur Hill of Apache; a brother, Jimmy of Oklahoma City, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hill of Apache, and Mrs. J.M. Roberts of Roosevelt.
