More detail on this person: Robert Harris Robert Alan Harris, 54, of Detroit Lakes, and president of Wells Fargo Bank of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. He was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Appleton to Edward and Dorothy (Thielke) Harris. He was raised in Montevideo where he was a 1965 graduate of Montevideo High School. He attended Moorhead State College until 1969. He entered the U.S. Army in 1970, where he was a Cobra Gunship Pilot in Viet Nam. He married Michelle Morrison on June 17, 1972, in Grand Forks. They couple moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he earned a bachelors degree in Aeronautics and Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In 1975, he began his banking career with Banco Corporation in Norfolk, Neb. He became a correspondent banker with Norwest Bank at Omaha, served as first vice president of Norwest Bank in Marion, Iowa, president of Norwest Bank in Keokuk, Iowa and came to Detroit Lakes in 1988, where he served as president of First National Bank, Norwest Bank and currently Wells Fargo Bank. Mr. Harris was a member of the United Methodist Church, serving on the church finance council; a member of Noon Rotary, where he was a past-president; a member of the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce where he was past-president; a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.; served nine years on the St. Mary's Hospital Board, with one year as chairman; participated in the Laker Booster Club and the Laker Swimming and Gymnastics Board; served on the Detroit Lakes United Way, where he was past-president; as well as served on the Develop DL and the Detroit Lakes Industrial Commission. He loved his family, flying and golf. He is survived by his wife, Michelle of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Kristin of San Francisco, Calif. and Heather of Detroit Lakes; two brothers, David (Evie) Harris of Alexandria and Jon (LuAnn) Harris of Fergus Falls; and a sister, Mary Harris of Anoka. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes Clergy: Rev. William Meier Funeral Home: David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.
