An extraordinary helicopter pilot who ran out of
altitude, airspeed and ideas in his battle with
cancer, but never lost his sense of humor.
He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War
and also served in Korea. He served as the
Commander of the 4th Squadron of the 278th
Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Tennessee Army
National Guard. He was retired from the U.S.
Army.
He was also retired from the State of Tennessee
where he worked for the Tennessee Emergency
Management Agency for 21 years in many
capacities culminating as the Deputy Director, and
later as Director of the Tennessee Occupational
Safety and Health Agency.
He was preceded in death by parents, James
Franklin Inman and Marjorie Faye Sykes of
Parsons, TN. Colonel Inman is survived by his
wife, Pam Hewlett Inman; and brother, Don (JoAnn)
Inman of Jackson, TN; children, Beth (Russ) Spivey
of Murfreesboro and J.D. Inman of Franklin;
grandchildren, Sidney, Josie and Sophie Spivey of
Murfreesboro; aunt, Lorraine Lambert of Atlanta;
and many wonderful cousins, nieces and
nephews.
A celebration of David's life will be officiated
by Dr. Jim Hughes, Jr., Senior Pastor, First
United Methodist Church, Columbia, TN on
Monday, June 23, 2008 at High Noon, at Woodbine
Funeral Home, HICKORY CHAPEL, 5852
Nolensville Road, Nashville. Burial with Full
Military Honors immediately following at Middle
Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Nashville, TN.
Active Pallbearers: Al Bardayan, Frank Griffin,
Steve Hewlett, Faye Houston, Don Inman, Matt
McKnight, Joe McInerney, Richard Taylor, Russ
Spivey and Garey Wheat. Honorary Pallbearers:
members of the Tennessee Army National Guard,
staff of the Tennessee Emergency Management
Agency, members of the Joy Boys Golf Club at
Forrest Crossing Golf Course.
