More detail on this person: I watched last
nights program (ITSOTB) and was completely
overcome with emotion. My father. LTC.William
(Bill) Insley, served as Comander of a Dust Off
Unit in Vietnam. I still have his decorations on
my office wall next to his picture. Though he
returned from Vietnam alive he never was able to
overcome his demons. He died alone in 1983 at age
50 of alcohol related health issues. I have always
regreted not knowing what he had gone through. He
simply could no talk about his experiences. I try
to tell my children about their Grandfather but
doubt they will ever understand how he could be a
career soldier and dedicate himself to preserving
life.
I can just see him now skimming over the the
treetops into a hot LZ, with no thought for his
own safty, to save the life of a soldier who he
has never met.
I am so proud of him.
