More detail on this person: JACKSON, MAJOR GOLDEN K. "GENERAL" "PAPPY" (RET.), 71, of Louisville, passed away August 16, 2010 at Jewish Hospital. He retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service, being a highly decorated veteran of Vietnam, where he was a helicopter and fixed wing pilot. He was an American Patriot devoted to his country until the day he died. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for combat action in Vietnam. He was cited by the U.S. Army for his heroism while flying a reconnaissance mission over enemy territory. He also was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and 10 Air Medals for other combat action in Vietnam. During his time in service Major Jackson received the following decorations and medals: Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with 19 Numerals, Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, Bronze, two loops, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 1. He was a lifetime member of Millcreek VFW Post #5421. In retirement he mostly enjoyed his grandchildren, R.V., camping, being a part of the River City Kickers and member and president of the Wild Card Dance Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Jackson; and a son, Kevin Keith Jackson. He is survived by his loving, adoring wife, Katherine (Tharp) Jackson; children, Kenneth Jackson (Pinky), Dennis Jackson, Kathy Nauert (Patrick), Keena Childress (Michael); grandchildren, Kenneth K., Victoria B., Gabriel K., Shelby D. and Sara D. Jackson, Katherine L., Jackson P., and Jacob M. Nauert, Shaylee L., and Thomas M. Childress. Funeral service for Major Jackson will be noon Saturday at Evergreen Funeral Home with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
