More detail on this person: Ernest "Ernie"' Johnson Lt. Col. Ret. Ernest "Ernie" Johnson, Passed away on July 7, 2005 after a valiant fight with cancer. Born October 26, 1926, in Itman, WV, Ernie dedicated his life to serving the country he loved. He served in the Navy during WWII. After WWII he transferred service to the U.S. Army. He served in the Special Forces in Korea and as a combat helicopter pilot in Viet Nam. During his 26 years of distinguished service he received many honors and countless medals including the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit with a cluster. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joan of Sun City, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 1 sister and many loving nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall with interment at Ft. Huachuca, with full military Honors. Those who wish to honor Ernie may make contributions, in his name, to: Hospice of the Valley, Fund Development, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements entrusted to Menke Funeral Home.
