More detail on this person: Alvin T Jones Sr, 73 ALVIN T. JONES SR. Daily Press (Newport News, VA) - Sunday, October 23, 2011 LTC Alvin T. Jones Sr., 73, a native of Johnstown, Pa., and a resident of Hampton for over 30 years, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Sentara CarePlex. Born on Aug. 18, 1938 to the late Elbert and Lillie Jones, Alvin attended Central State University in Ohio from 1955-1959. He received a degree in Business Administration and was commissioned to second lieutenant in 1961. In 1963, he completed aviation school. During his military career, he had many stateside assignments, along with several overseas tours in Germany and Vietnam. Lt. Col. Jones received two distinguished flying crosses, a bronze star, and a meritorious medal. After retirement, he was employed for 10 years with the Newport News School System. He was a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and LesHommes Social Club. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Barbara; son, Alvin Jr. (Brigitte); daughter, Lena Parker (Jerry); and two grandchildren, Brandon and Selena Jones. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the funeral home. A celebration of Alvin's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com.
