Col. (Ret) Edward Paul Janz, formerly of Kalamazoo, in Laguna Beach, Calif. Janz, 49, died at University Hospital in San Diego. A graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Janz attended Olivet College and Western Michigan University, where he played football under former Coach Johnny Gill. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Berghuis, Janz was awarded his wings by the United States Marine Corps in 1955, and retired from the Marines in 1974 after having served four tours of duty in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Jane, and two daughters, Janet and Jennifer, all of Laguna Beach.
