More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Edwin G. Jones Lt. Col. Edwin G. Jones, (ret.) passed away peacefully in his beloved "Red House" on June 18. He was 96 years old. He is survived by his children Bruce Jones of Denver Colo., Kerry Jones of Eufaula, Barry Jones (Carol) of Mobile, and Lisa Cerasoli (Don) of Webster, NY. Other survivors include granddaugthers Shannon, Erica, and Rachel;and dear friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife Virginia, who preceded him in death. His parents Emmett and Lila Jones and sisters Nell and Mary Margaret, and brother Emmett also preceded his passing. Col. Jones was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. As a result of heroic conduct and deeds of valor while in Vietnam, the Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Ribbon were awarded to him. Col. Jones was stationed at other bases in the U.S. as well as the Pentagon, Europe, and Asia. He traveled extensively during his time in the military for pleasure. Upon retirement he returned to his hometown of Eufaula. He bought his "Red House," which had seen much better days, and restored it. He also enjoyed working in his gardens. They were so beautiful that twice they were on the Pilgrimage tour . It was not unheard of for visitors to knock and ask permission to walk through. Besides travel, home restoration, and gardening, Col. Jones followed politics and world news, even well into his nineties. He loved a good laugh and pranks, and shared humorous stories about time in the military and his youth. Col. Jones was buried in a private ceremony at Andersonville National Cemetery on July 5th. Chapman Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements. To honor his memory, please donate to a charity of choice.
