More detail on this person: John Joseph Joyce AL United States (Ret. Major) John Joseph 'Jack' Joyce-- 71, of 803 Camelot Court, died September 8, 2002 at his residence following an extended illness. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 am Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. A Rosary was said at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Byrd Funeral Home. Mr. Joyce was born January 21, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and lived the early years of his life there. A graduate of Duquesne University, Mr. Joyce served in the U.S. Army for twenty years. During his twenty-year career with the U.S. Army he served four tours in Vietnam, one tour in Korea and was detailed with Lockheed Aircraft Coporation as a U.S. Army Contract Officer and test pilot. At the time of his retirement in 1974 he was a flight instructor stationed at Fort Rucker. Following his retirement he owned and operated Joyce Insurance agency for several years prior to his retirement. Mr. Joyce was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Dothan Elks Lodge, Association of U.S. Army, Army Aviation Association of America, and Reserve Officers Association. Survivors include his wife, Opal V. Joyce, Dothan, AL; a son, Joseph A. Joyce, Honolulu; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ron Rice, Mobile, AL.
