Lt. Colonel Lawrence Michael 'Mike' King, 62, U.S.
Army retired, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006,
at his home in Williamsburg. Mike grew up in Dade
City, Fla., and was a resident of Yorktown since
1989 before moving to Williamsburg 1 ? years ago.
He retired from Fort Monroe in 1991 after 24 years
of faithful service as a Lt. Col. in the Regular
Army. Mike was a veteran of Viet Nam, serving two
tours, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying
Cross, two Bronze Stars, 13 Air Medals, and two
RVN Gallantry Crosses.
He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots
Association, the Blackhawk Association and the
Distinguished Flying Cross Society. He was also a
member of the National Rifle Association and was a
member and range officer of the Lafayette Gun
Club. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 30
years, Patricia King of Williamsburg; two
daughters, Kelly Michelle King of North Carolina
and Tracey Denise King of Williamsburg; his
mother, Olivia King of Dade City, Fla.; a sister,
Jane Hollister of Macon, Ga.; and a granddaughter,
Kayla Fowler of North Carolina. A funeral service
will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, in the
chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Inurnment
will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a
later date. The family will receive friends from 6
to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to the American Lung Association, 5349 E.
Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
