More detail on this person: Larry Richard Kolar, a 26-year Barstow resident, died unexpectedly on January 9, 2012. He was born August 10, 1939, to Elsie and Richard W. Kolar in Jefferson City, MO. Mr. Kolar served 20 years in the U. S. Army, retiring as a major. His tours of duty included Korea (boat captain) and two in Vietnam (helicopter pilot). He earned a B. S. degree in transportation from Embry-Riddle University and moved to Barstow to work for Dynelectron Corporation at Ft. Irwin/NTC as transportation motor pool manager. Next he taught for the Barstow and Helendale school districts, the career he declared the most rewarding. Larry Kolar is survived by his wife, Jane, sisters Linda Little (Dwayne) of San Diego and Lois Duncan (Harville) of Hamilton, OH. Daughter Karen Flanagan (Steve) resides in Belton, MO and daughter Vicki (Paul Burnette), in Richmond, VA. His older stepson Trey Zimmerman (Maria) lives in Wilmington, NC; the younger, James Bennett (Kaye), in Mineral, VA. He is survived by 12 grandchildren as well. No services are planned. Friends are encouraged to honor his life by doing something to benefit children. Published in the Daily Press. Larry Kolar was a Past-President, Vice-President and Treasurer of our SoCal VHPA.
