More detail on this person: Maj Johnny L Kirk Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at a 10:00 AM Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Major Johnny L. Kirk, U.S. Army Retired, age 70, who died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery with a full military detail. Reverend Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Jodi Bollich, organist, will sing for the services, "On Eagles' Wings", "Blessings", and "If Tomorrow Never Comes". Survivors include his wife, Marianne Jaskier Kirk; one son, Richard L. Kirk; one daughter, Vicky Kirk Pudelski and her husband, Raymond Pudelski; a brother, Hunley Kirk and his wife, Betty; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Melton Kirk and Alta Kirk. Johnny L. Kirk was born on August 26, 1942 in Lenoir City, Tennessee and was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for 35 years. He was a retired veteran of military service and served his country in the United States Army. Major Kirk served with pride for over twenty years. He served several tours in Vietnam and was a member of the Special Forces. He was a proud recipient of the Master Parachute badge, 3 Purple Heart Awards, Award of the Air Medal (2-13 AWD), Combat Infantrymen Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star with Valor. He also received the Army Aviation Badge Air Medal with a distinction of Valor and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with POM. After retirement, he was involved with many charitable organizations. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Major Johnny L. Kirk's name to the The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or the American Diabetes Association, 9405 Interline Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809.
