More detail on this person: Sherrill Lynn Keith Sherrill Lynn Keith passed away on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at his family ranch near Knickerbocker, Texas. He was born Aug. 6, 1949, in Austin to Phil and Geneva Keith. Sherrill spent most of his life in the Leander area on the family ranch located in Williamson County. He graduated from Georgetown High School, and attended Stephen F. Austin State Univer-sity in Nacogdoches, Texas, before joining the U.S. Army to become a helicopter pilot. On his tours of service in Vietnam he acquired the nickname "Sam" because of his red handlebar mustache. Sherrill continued to fly helicopters for the next 25 years for various companies. In his travels he flew the Grand Canyon tours and fought fires at Yellowstone National Park and various places in California. His travels and search and rescue missions also took him to Indonesia, Africa and Alaska. Sherrill's last place of employment was through Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. Sherrill was an avid reader, marksman and hunter as well as a supporter of wildlife management programs. He was actively involved in raising Texas Longhorns with his parents, both in Leander and later near Knickerbocker. He was preceded in death by his brother Randy Phil Keith and father Phillip Harvey Keith. He is survived by his mother, Geneva Lee Davis Keith; brother, Barry Lee Keith and wife Dawna of Midland; sister, Karen Keith Gonzales and husband Rudy of Temple; nephew, Joshua Mason McGinty and wife Ellen of Wheaton, Ill.; great niece, Catie McGinty, and great nephew, Mason McGinty, both of Wheaton, Ill.; and numerous cousins. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Bagdad Cemetery in Leander with Pastor Robert McElwaine officiating.
