More detail on this person: JOHN ALLEN KIRCHENBAUER, 64 Holtville Sept. 12, 1940 - March 24, 2005 Church services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Holtville for John Allen Kirchenbauer, 64, of Holtville, who died en route to Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix from an aneurysm near the heart. Pastor Kalesita Tu'ifua of the United Methodist Church in Holtville will officiate. Born Sept. 12, 1940, in Ponca City, Okla., Mr. Kirchenbauer graduated from Ponca City High School in 1959. He attended Oklahoma State University on a wrestling scholarship and graduated in 1965. After college, he joined the Army, where he earned the rank of captain and was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He earned his master's degree in administration from OSU in 1974 and his administrative credential from San Diego State University in 1986. Mr. Kirchenbauer moved to the Imperial Valley in 1968 to begin his teaching career at Holtville High School, where he coached wrestling. Later, he taught at Central Union High School in El Centro, where he coached wrestling before returning to Holtville to be principal of Holtville Middle School. He later became vice principal of Holtville High School and project director and principal at Pine School. He ended his career as an educator at Holtville High School, where he taught special education. Mr. Kirchenbauer was an active member of the Holtville United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Barbara Worth Golf Resort and an active member of the Holtville Athletic Club. At the time of his death, he was golf coach at Southwest High School in El Centro. According to family, Mr. Kirchenbauer loved the community of Holtville. He retired Feb. 1, 2004, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and golfing, family said. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Kirchenbauer of Holtville; son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Erika Kirchenbauer of San Jose; daughters and sons-in-law, Karin and Paul Chambers of Holtville and Amy and Chad Travis of Imperial; grandchildren, Katelyn Kirchenbauer, Caleb and Rachel Chambers and Taylor and Tanner Travis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Art and Billie Kirchenbauer, Clinton and Patti Kirchenbauer and Gary and Mary Kirchenbauer, all of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Sun Community Federal Credit Union in care of the John Kirchenbauer Memorial Scholarship Fund.
