More detail on this person: Thomas H. "TOM" Knowles, 74, passed away February 19, 2015. Born June 3, 1940 in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late T. Henry and Mary Knowles.

He received his BS from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA and his MBA from the University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL. Prior to entering the United States Marine Corps, he was employed by Sandia Corporation, Albuquerque, NM.

Tom was retired from the USMC and was a career pilot, serving two tours in Viet Nam and also a senior flight instructor in Pensacola, FL. He was involved with training Joe Kerwin (Skylab 3) and Ed Gibson (Skylab 4), astronauts with NASA.

Tom was a past flight officer and Life Member of the Order of Daedalians, the National Fraternal Order of Military Pilots, and the USMC/Combat Helicopter Association.

Survivors include a sister, Marianne Hardies of Goshen, IN and nephew, Tom Hardies of Burr Ridge, IL.

Burial with full Military Honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. No local services are planned.
