More detail on this person: Fred was stationed
at Fort Riley when I got there in 1956. I was
waiting for orders to go to flight school. He was
SFC, I was Sp4 and we waited for those orders
together, along with Lew Stone, who was Sgt E6 at
the time. We got orders a couple months apart,
with Lew going first, then me. Fred came to flight
school a month behind me, finished a month ahead
of me. Lew Stone was an early casualty in Viet
nam.
Fred was at Fort Campbell while I was at Fort
Knox, then in a different H 34 company while we
were in Germany, I did not see him again until he
was my replacement when General Melvin Zais
turned over the 101st , and Fred was the incoming
IP. He got there a couple weeks ahead of his
general and I sort of got him familiar with the
area. Then after the change of command ceremony,
I left and have only seen him two or three times
after that, always at Fort Rucker. The world is a
sadder place without Fred Lindsley.
