More detail on this person: Laux, Peter Edward 69, of Plano, TX; went to Heaven in the arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 13, 2012 in Orlando, Florida while on vacation. He is survived by his loving and devoted college sweetheart and wife, Joyce; daughter Suzanne (Jimmy) Wilson of Plano and Jennifer (Terry) Bollom of Frisco; and granddaughters Ginny and Grace Wilson, and Emily and Faith Bollom, who will dearly miss their "Poppa". He is also survived by his sister Edna Stevens and brother, Christopher Laux, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Edna Laux. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves after high school graduation, and upon receiving an ROTC scholarship, he selected The University of Virginia to continue his education. Peter was inspired by the traditions and legacy of UVa founder, Thomas Jefferson. At UVa, he was a Midshipman in the NROTC; a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity, earned his private pilot's license, and took graduate courses while working in the University Hospital (where he met Joyce, a nursing student.) He received his commission in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded his BA in Psychology in June 1965. He attended Officer's Basic School at Quantico, VA., and flight school at NAS Pensacola, FL. After advanced training in the UH-1E (Huey) helicopter, he was promoted to Captain, and joined his squadron in Vietnam in Jan. 1968, arriving in Phu Bai to fight in the Tet Offensive in Hue. He logged more than 600 combat missions, flew close-air support, and innumerable lifesaving medivac flights. After Vietnam, he was stationed in Kaneohe, Hawaii, North Carolina, Okinawa, and California. In June 1976, he completed his active duty in the USMC, but would be "Always a Marine!" He then began a career at Texas Instruments, Inc. in Dallas. He also travelled the world as a Helicopter Safety Engineer for TI/GSI. He retired from Texas Instruments in 1996 and ran his own independent Management Consulting Practice from 97-07. Working on contract for many companies, he was a Management Change Consultant for Dell in Plano at the time of his death. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1981, so he could continue flying, and logged more than 5000 flight hours with the "Tough Ombres". He retired from the USAR in '03. He was a true patriot, having served his country in three branches of the Armed Forces. Peter loved travel, the beach, reading (everything!), good food and wine, classical and band music, museums and the Arts, and was a loyal friend. He especially loved his Lord Jesus, family, country and church. He was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder, member of the Planning Team, caregiver, teacher, and many other roles. His generous spirit, loving servant-heart, willing hands, and ready smile will be missed by all. His legacy of faith will sustain us. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, TX 75075. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah's Building Fund; attn: Laux Memorial.
