Leavitt Jr. formerly of Nahant and Longboat Key, Florida, died October 20, 2007, age 61. Miles attended school in Nahant, Lynn Classical High School and the University of Tampa, Florida. He was a recipient of the Carnegie Medal for Heroism in 1962 in recognition of his efforts to save a local fisherman from drowning. He served in the U.S. Army in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Miles had a long and successful career in the insurance industry and had recently retired as Chief Operations Officer of Cobb Utilities based in Atlanta, GA. Although his years growing up in Nahant were some of his most cherished memories, he had lived most recently in Longboat Key, where he was active in local politics and a generous benefactor to many worthy causes. He is the son of the late Miles J. Leavitt and is survived by his mother, Gertrude Conley Leavitt of Danvers, MA; two sisters, Anne Carter of Newburyport, MA and Susan Bannon of Newtown, PA; a brother, Frederick Leavitt of Portland, ME; nine nieces and nephews and four great nieces and nephews. Service Information: A memorial service will be held in January in Longboat Key, FL and in Nahant at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on November 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.
