John served in the US Army, achieving the rank of Captain during two tours in Vietnam, as a helicopter pilot for the 1st Cavalry Division. John was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal, the Heroic and Meritorious Achievement Medal amongst others. John is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Pat; sons, Sean and Matt; and daughter, Erin, her husband Ray Iddenden; John's brother, Ed and his wife Bobbie, brother Mike and his wife Kathy, brother Don and his wife Fran, sister Diane and husband Charlie Volpe; as well as mother-in-law, Mary Selby; and numerous sisters-in-law; brothers-in- law; nieces and nephews. And also his beloved companions, Max, Theo, Buffy and Betty. The family will receive and welcome friends and family at the funeral home on Sunday, January 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar, with Reverend John Price as officiant. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park followed by a wake at the Lynch home. Serving as pallbearers, Ed Lynch, Mike Lynch, Pete Hudson, Tim Beall, Warren Ruff, Marc Zuniga and Rodney Rice. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association or the Metrolina Association for the blind
