More detail on this person: Warren Lowry, 70, died unexpectedly while riding his bicycle in Sinsheimer Park on December 19, 2016, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Born in Warrensburg, Mo., Warren grew up in Albuquerque, N.M. and Annandale, Va. He attended the University of Tennessee, majoring in Geology, on a track scholarship, until he was called to serve in the United States Army, where he was trained to fly helicopters. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his military service, Warren began a long career in commercial aviation, flying helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in Alaska. Passionate about flying and safety, he flew contracts with private industry as well as government agencies in remote areas throughout the state and was respected by his peers and by those for whom he flew. After nearly 30 years, Warren and his wife left the adventures of their Alaska home and moved to San Luis Obispo on the Central Coast of California. He thoroughly enjoyed the area: touring on his bicycle daily, playing a little golf, enjoying the fresh foods of the region, and walking his dogs in the hills and along the beach. He was infectiously curious about life and "stuff." His enthusiasm for flying also gave rise to a measured, steady and reassuring confidence which extended to all aspects of his life. Unassuming, gracious, generous, a gentleman, and always kind, Warren will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Lowry. Warren is survived by his wife, Madelyn Millholland, and his beloved dog, Mac. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries
