More detail on this person: Chief Warrant Officer Russell C. Loften PARSONS, Kan. -- Chief Warrant Officer Russell C. Loften, 53, died from an apparent heart attack on Feb. 11, 1991, at Labette County Medical Center. A native of Ocala, Mr. Loften was the son of Alfred and Leona Hester Loften. He attended schools in Ocala and graduated from Ocala High School in 1956. He attended the Marion Institute Military College in Marion, Ala., and joined the U.S. Army in 1959. He received his wings as a helicopter pilot at Fort Rucker, Ala., in 1966, and served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, Korea, Honduras, Fort Campbell, Ky., Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Ga., and Fort Hood, Texas. In 1986, he was assigned as a property book technician in the 243rd SS Battalion. In 1990, he moved to Parsons from Bryan-College Station, Texas, and was serving with the Supply and Service Battalion at 2700 Southern Blvd. Mr. Loften had received three Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Medal V60, the Army Commendation Medal, second oak leaf cluster, the Parachute Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal for 20 years service. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal with four stars. Mr. Loften was an accomplished woodcraftsman, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of First Baptist Church, Ocala. Survivors include his wife, Olivia D. Loften, Parsons, Kan.; a daughter, Sandra Cude, Dallas, Texas; his father, Alfred Loften, Orlando; two brothers, Richard Loften, Shreveport, La., and Raymond Loften, West Palm Beach; five sisters, Rumele Melton, Orlando, Estelle Prescher, Tampa, O'Bera Brown, Montgomery, Ala., Mary St. Clair, Indianapolis, and Gertrude Stout, Haughton, La.
