More detail on this person: Thomas Alexander McCarthy Jr. Thomas Alexander McCarthy Jr. of Sterling died Aug 26 at Loudoun Hospital Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 24, 1946 in Norfolk, Va. He was a Vietnam veteran and recipient of the purple Heart. He was employed for more than 30 years as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA and was a member of NATCA for 20 years. Survivors include his Wife, Carlene McCarthy of Sterling; children Mary McCarthy Balderson and her husband Keith of Sterling and Michael Thomas McCarthy and wife Nicole of Glen Allen, Va; one sister, Patricia Spivey of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Duncan Alexander Balderson and Carter Thomas Balderson. Funeral Services were held Aug. 29 at Galilee United Methodist Church, with Pastor Wayne Snead officiating. Graveside services with full honors were scheduled for 9a.m. Sept. 25 at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Adams-Green Funeral Home of Herndon.
