He had been in failing health since September. He was born March 26, 1928, in Florence, Colo., the son of Walter O. and Nellie Nevada Hickman McKeever. On May 16, 1953 in Angola he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Esther Lyon. They were married for almost 53 years. His career was his service to his country. He began his career with a stint in the U.S. Navy and concluded it with several re-enlistments in the U.S. Army as a pilot where he flew helicopters. His career in the military spanned 26 years from the end of World War II through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, until he retired in 1986. He was in active combat in both Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and he served as president of the McKeever Family Association. He regularly attended the Chief Warrant Officers meetings (W-4 Meetings) where he would meet old military comrades and keep abreast of current events with them and their military families. He loved the outdoors and regularly worked mending fences and caring for his cattle, which he raised on the family homestead, near Macy. He had three loves in his life. Paramount was the love his wife, Esther, secondary was his love for flying helicopters, and lastly was his love for the cattle for which he devoted his time to after retiring.
